![]() The shuttle was right on time at 12:15pm. It was so hot today we took the first shuttle back.we intended to stay longer but couldn’t stand the heat. This time around I didn’t find any live shells but saw lots of fish, a couple of small rays and a bunch of sand dollars and a handful of keeper shells, and we got to explore with our teen boys which was priceless. This was our second time using Shell Key Shuttle, our first time was February 2014 which was an adult only trip and we found so many shells and sand dollars and live shells. (7) WEAR WATERSHOES (or something to protect your feet) - you are literally walking on shells (ouch) Overall we had a great morning as a family and collected some cool shells.Įven though we didn’t find as many “good” shells this time around it was a trip that I won’t soon forget. It was overcast, so we opted out of umbrella use and we brought our own snorkel gear, so I can’t comment on condition or usefulness of either of these amenities. For $3, they will give you parking pass you can use all day (6) Your cost includes shell collection bags, snorkel and umbrella rental. (4) you are required to wear a mask and they are socially distancing groups on boat and plenty of island to social distance (5) no need to put money in parking meter. (3) there are no facilities on island so do your business before you go and bring drinks/snacks if you think you will need. Storms are good for bringing up good shells but decrease your visibility when snorkeling. Visibility was poor the day we went because of the storm the day before and coming in today. We shelled and then chilled in the water closer to drop off /pick up. (2) when you get off boat, go to right for good shell collection. ![]() (1) If you plan to take first shuttle - recommend arriving by 9:30 am. We opted to go anyway since this was our only day to go. Recommend calling the morning you plan to go to make sure they plan to head out for day. ![]() We were notified that we could only stay until 12:15 bc of the possible incoming storm and the Coast Guard regulations for the day. AWESOME! we will definitely be back next weekend on a mission for a big conch centerpiece that we found! thank you Shell key shuttle for an amazing Sunday! They will also tell you the best places for shelling and the captain is very nice and informative! we got off on shell key and walked about 10-15 minutes to the northern point(wish we went further) but we found SO MANY SHELLS!!! and not just your average shells, like many many Sand dollars, conch shells, and the big orange spotted ones! when we returned to the boat we saw that 2 other groups found conch shells that they literally sell at homegoods for $40. they give you a parking pass that’s good for the whole day. The shuttle is very COVID friendly and you are required to wear a mask on the shuttle. Last minute my boyfriend and i decided to take a trip to shell key, and we were not disappointed!!! to start off, we arrived 30 minutes early, and the man selling tickets noticed my USAA card and gave us military discount! he was very nice and we chat for a bit about florida. ![]()
